2022, Cells and DevelopmentCitation Excerpt :MPF promotes many mitotic events, such as nuclear envelope breakdown and chromosome condensation, through the regulatory phosphorylation of hundreds of divergent substrates (Ubersax et al., 2003; Nigg, 2001). The activity of MPF is tightly regulated in multiple ways, including the oscillating levels of Cyclin B and phosphorylation of Cdk1 (Coleman and Dunphy, 1994; Lew and Kornbluth, 1996). In interphase, newly synthesized Cyclin B interacts with Cdk1, followed subsequently by Wee1 kinase family-mediated phosphorylation at Thr14 and Tyr15 of Cdk1 (Norbury and Nurse, 1992; King et al., 1994), resulting in the suppression of Cdk1 activity (Lew and Kornbluth, 1996).
