Prenatal exposure to Cannabis smoke induces early and lasting damage to the brain
2022, Neurochemistry InternationalCitation Excerpt :The total brain volume and brain compartment volume at all ages were assessed by the Cavalieri principle. This method has been described in detail elsewhere (Gundersen and Jensen 1987; Tinsley et al., 2001). For foetuses, the total brain volume was measured using:V = M/DWhere ‘V’ is total brain volume, ‘M’ is mass of the brain, and ‘D’ is density (1,06 g/cm3).
Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 (IGF-2) Regulates Neuronal Density and IGF-2 Distribution Following Hippocampal Intracerebral Hemorrhage
2020, Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular DiseasesCitation Excerpt :The Est V stands for the computed volume, the ΣP represents the sum of test points, the ap and the d are the planar areas related to the lattice test point, and the distance between the sampled section planes, respectively. The brain structure volumes were computed in the current study recognized as the total hippocampus containing the fimbria, CA1, CA3, the dentate gyrus, and the subiculum.31 The SPSS software (Statistical Package for Social Sciences, SPSS Inc) was used for statistical analysis.
Concentrated ambient fine particulate matter (PM<inf>2.5</inf>) exposure induce brain damage in pre and postnatal exposed mice
2020, NeuroToxicologyCitation Excerpt :The number and percentage of time spent in a head-dipping position (with the head protruding over the edge of the open arm) and the percentage time and the number of rearing movements (vertical standing of a rodent on its two hind legs) were also quantified. Total brain volume and brain compartment volumes were assessed according to the Cavalieri principle (Gundersen and Jensen, 1987; Tinsley et al., 2001). Mice were quickly euthanized and each brain was fixed in 10% formaldehyde.
Non-homogeneous stereological properties of the rat hippocampus from high-resolution 3D serial reconstruction of thin histological sections
2012, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Many pathological conditions and animal models are characterized by changes in hippocampus volumes (Wolf et al., 2002a; Lee et al., 2009). Numerous studies have been carried out to estimate hippocampal layer volumes by unbiased stereology (Schmitz and Hof, 2005; Boss et al., 1987; Tinsley et al., 2001; Ahmad et al., 2002; Akdogan et al., 2008; West et al., 1991; Slomianka and West, 2005). However, the precision of absolute volume estimations of these design-based stereology techniques is typically impossible to assess (Glaser, 2005).

2008, Computational Neuroscience in EpilepsyStereological methods to assess tissue response for tissue-engineered scaffolds
2007, BiomaterialsCitation Excerpt :In a systematic approach, samples are drawn at regular intervals with a random starting point [33,34,42]. Tinsley et al. [6] use this method by exhaustively sectioning the whole organ obtaining ribbons of 5 sections and collecting samples every 60 sections. This method is efficient and widely used in stereology [35–37].
